ClearView Video Analysis Includes DMOS

Video Clarity Enhances ClearView to Include the ITU Recommend Mean Opinion Score in its Video Quality Testing Product-Line

Campbell, California– March 31, 2009 – Video Clarity, Inc. will demonstrate the addition of DMOS to their video analysis tools at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, Booth SU11321, April 20-23, 2009. Broadcasters and Manufacturers use ClearView to perform in-depth, quantitative and qualitative video analysis.

ClearView serves as a video quality analyzer. It comprises
  • The ability to Play and Record 2 HD signals (YUV or RGB)
  • Imports compressed or uncompressed files
  • Automatically aligns 2 video sequences for full reference metric analysis
    • Reporting transmission delays and potential lip-sync issues
  • Runs Quantitative Metrics including DMOS, JND, and PSNR
  • Lets you see the signals so you can judge yourself
ClearView now includes the University of Texas’ structural similarity (SSIM) metric, which assumes that the Human Visual System (HVS) is highly adapted for extracting structural information from the scene. It has been shown that a simple implementation of structural similarity (SSIM) outperforms state-of-the-art perceptual image quality metrics when calibrated correctly to the data. To eliminate the need to calibrate SSIM for each dataset, Multi-Scale-SSIM (MS-SSIM) has been defined. In MS-SSIM, the picture is evaluated at various resolutions and the result is an average of these calibrated steps. It has been shown that MS-SSIM out-performs simple SSIM even when SSIM is correctly calibrated to the environment and dataset. For more information about SSIM, please view our technical white papers.

“Video Clarity continually enhances our product lines and develops cutting-edge tools to service the research community. In cooperation with the University of Texas, we have implemented MS-SSIM and ported it to the Differential Mean Opinion Score (DMOS) scale using the LIVE database,” affirmed Bill Reckwerdt, CTO of Video Clarity. “With this release, ClearView supports the ITU recommended practice for scaling objective video quality measurements.”
